"Walls cannot embrace a library. It is more than a place, more than books and films and records, more even than the people who make it work. Basically a library is a gathering of ideas, of information-- put in order and shared. And, the sharing is the whole point of a library."
Compton's Encyclopedia, 1986
Media Center Policy
The more you read the better reader you will become! Therefore, to enforce this philosophy each student will receive a library card that entitles him or her to check out books from the Hurlock Elementary School Media Center.
- Pre Kindergarten, Kindergarten, and 1st grade = 1 book at a time
- 2nd grade – 5th grade = 2 books at a time
Books must be returned in the same condition that they were checked out. It is the child’s responsibility to take care of our books and return them on time. Any overdue book must be returned or paid for prior to the last week of school.
If your child fails to return their book or their debt is not paid the following may occur:
- Loss of recess
- Loss of ice cream/snack privileges
- Loss of special end of the year activities such as assemblies, Fun Fridays, and/or Activity Day.
