Our Counselor: Danielle McKeown

The School Counselor is a full-time professional at Hurlock Elementary School who provides services to students, parents, and teachers. Miss McKeown provides the following services:
 
  • Individual counseling - when students are self, teacher, parent, or staff referred (with parental permission for extended counseling)
  • Group counseling - topics such as changing families, anger management, friendship, social skills, and study skills are addressed.
  • Lunch bunches - students invite friends to join them for a supervised lunch in the counselor's office to problem solve or meet new students.
  • Classroom guidance - teaching topics that include: bullying prevention, friendship skills, stress management, communication skills, career development, middle school transition, tolerance, etc. The Second Step curriculum, a scientifically based violence prevention program, is used for all Pre-K classroom lessons.
  • Parent support - which includes parent conferences, referrals, and parenting information.
  • Committee Memberships:  serving on committees such as School Improvement, Student Services Team, Attendance Review, etc.
  • Community Outreach:  Making home visits, participating in community  and school functions.  Coordinating our annual Canned Food Drive benefiting the Hurlock Food Bank and our Pennies For Patients drive which benefits Leukemia and Lymphoma patients.
  • Hurlock Elementary is a Character Counts! school. If you are interested in volunteering as a character coach in your child's classroom, please contact Miss McKeown.
